Jelld

Hebron

Jelld (Arabic for leather) is a social enterprise founded in Hebron the southern West Bank in 2016 by three university students, who aspired to set up an innovative venture that would provide economic opportunity for those in need. Growing up in the city renowned for commerce and craft industry, the three decided to work with leather and to create products that would appeal to their generation.

Jelld strives to reinvigorate Hebron’s traditional leather industry with creativity and contemporary designs. Their workshop is located in the village of Dura, where young craftsmen design prototypes and finalize products for distribution. Hand-stitching and assembling work is distributed to youth, women from disadvantaged families, and people with disabilities in the area. Today, it has grown to employ 17 people and markets its products across Palestine and selected outlets in the US and Europe.

Jelld products are made of top quality, natural leather sourced directly from the generations-old tannery of the Zaataris, one of the craft families of Hebron. The cow leather mainly comes from the Gaza Strip, and the goat is mostly from the farms in the West Bank. Their wallets, cross-body bags, laptop holders are popular especially among young people, embracing Jelld's stylish designs and Palestinian origin.
