Hares Women’s Society

Salfit

Hares Women’s Society is a nonprofit organization established in the village of Hares in 2008 by a group of 15 women, who came together to address the needs of women in Hares and the neighboring Kfar Hares village in the Salfit district in the northwestern West Bank.  The Society is the only institution in the village and is run entirely by volunteers, who organize a wide range of activities such as income-generation, psychosocial support workshops, summer camps, and health services, targeting more than 200 women and young girls.  Hares, as with other rural communities of Salfit, is known for the traditional basketry using olive branches and wheat stalks from their fields.  The Society became a Sunbula partner in 2025 after completing the basket weaving training for a group of 15 young women.  The Society strives to keep alive their local tradition while providing economic opportunity for the women.
